MINISTRY OF INFRASTRUCTURE EVENTS NEWS: Kigali-Gatuna-Mbarara highway rehabilitation launched This Friday, 24th December 2011, The President of Rwanda His Excellency Paul Kagame and His Ugandan counterpart Yoweli Kaguta Museveni launched the rehabilitation works of Kigali- Gatuna – Mbarara Highway, the event held at Gatuna border, on the Ugandan side.
This is the huge project of the Northern corridor network that will be completed within 33 months. The roadway links Kigali to Mombasa International port via Kampala. It is 47 million Euros worth, entirely financed by the European Development Fund.

The Minister of State in charge of Transport Dr. Alexis Nzahabwanimana this Thursday the 8th November 2011 visited the Motor vehicle Inspection Center at Remera, to be aware of the service provided at the center, and look forward to the enhancement for a better service offered to daily hundreds of beneficiaries. 3 more Micro-Hydropower plants to generate 3.2 MW On Thursday, 27 October 2011, the Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Albert NSENGIYUMVA, together with the Ambassador of Belgium in Rwanda, HE Marc PECSTEEN officially inaugurated the Micro-Hydropower plants (MHPPs) of Keya, in Rubavu District and Cyimbili and Nkora in Rutsiro District. The three MHPPs produce 3.2 MW which are fed into the national grid to increase the power output by 5 percent.

The recently appointed Minister of State in charge of Energy and Water in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Mrs Emma Francoise Isumbingabo vows to put more efforts in speeding up the delivery as she takes over.

Northern corridor Technical officers meet over three one stop border posts implementation Over than 70 Joint technical committees members from 5 Northern Corridor member states are meeting in Kigali to validate the final report on three One- stop border posts in the region. The meeting started this Monday 17 until 21st this month. Along this 4 days meeting, the participants will be discussing the establishment of three one stop border posts, whose study has been completed. The posts are one of Mpondwe /Kasindi a DRC – Uganda post, Goma- Gisenyi between Rwanda and DRC, and Akanyaru border post between Rwanda and Burundi.

Launching of Methane extraction project from Lake Kivu to generate 25 MWThe American firm ContourGlobal which launched the beginning of methane gas extraction from Lake Kivu has also secured a new loan from various sources which will enable it to increase supply of power to the national grid. The loan agreement of $91.25 million was signed Thursday, 25 August 2011 at the KivuWatt project site in Karongi district (western province), during the launching of the 750 tons barge that will house the gas extraction facility. The function was also the groundbreaking for the power plant.
