Jambojet commences Kigali flights

Jambojet inaugural flight landing at Kigali International Airport on 26 November 2019

Kigali 29 November 2019: Regional low-cost airline, Jambojet has commenced direct flights from Nairobi to Kigali, Rwanda. The airline made its inaugural flight to Kigali on Tuesday, 26 November 2019 with a promotional fare of USD 107 one way.

The airline will be flying once daily from its hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi to Kigali International Airport.

The airline, a subsidiary of Kenya’s National Carrier, Kenya Airways, seeks to enable more passengers to fly affordably and reliably between Kigali and its hub in Nairobi. The entry into the Kigali route makes Jambojet the only low -cost airline to operate the route from Nairobi.

According to Col. Silas Udahemuka, Director General of Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority, “It’s not an accident that we open up for a regional airline.”

“It is Rwanda’s policy to open up for investment, but it is also our intention to fixing the gap in the industry,” he said while welcoming and congratulating Jambojet for successfully entering the Rwanda skies.

The JamboJet Chief Executive Officer Allan Kilavuka said that “The new route to Kigali is part of our regional expansion programme bringing the total number of our international routes in the continent to three, with the exception to those we fly to on behalf of Kenya Airways, and a total of 9 routes in the Jambojet network,”  “Today, we mark a major milestone in our regional expansion strategy. Our aim is to grow our footprint across the continent, while offering a unique product for these markets,” said Kilavuka. “We expect that our low-cost model will enable more people to fly affordably, conveniently, and safely.” He added.

Jambojet flies to five local destinations - Malindi, Ukunda, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret, as well as Entebbe, Uganda - from its hub in Nairobi.

Since inception in 2014, Jambojet, which was awarded the coveted IATA Operational Safety Audit certification (IOSA) in July 2019, has flown over 3 million passengers, 30 per cent of whom are first-time flyers. The airline is also eyeing South Sudan, Mogadishu, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Union of the Comoros and Malawi.
