Minister Gatete commends the progress of rehabilitation of Shyogwe-Mayaga dyke and Mark cable factory

Nyanza, 8 May 2021- Minister of Infrastructure Hon. Claver Gatete accompanied by the Governor of Southern Province, Hon. Alice Kayitesi and other from Ruhango and Muhanga Districts, visited rehabilitation works for Shogwe-Mayaga coordinated development of water storage infrastructure (composed of dam, dyke) and irrigation channels and restoration of wetlands to meet water security demands for water supply. They also visited Shyogwe–Mayaga water treatment plant that supplies 2,400 cubic meters per day in Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango and Nyanza Districts in Southern Province.

The Officials also visited the Rwf5 billion Mark cable Factory, an electric cable factory under construction in Nyanza District. The factory is owned by Mark Cables FZE, a manufacturer of electrical wire, cable and related products and services.

Construction works are nearly completed and the plant is set to begin operations in June 2021. Mark cable Factory has the capacity to manufacture 55,000 kilometres of cables per year to be supplied to both local and regional markets. The plant is expected to employ between 100 and 150 people as more jobs and business opportunities will be created along the value chain.

Minister Gatete and Governor of Southern Province commended construction progress of both the Shyogwe-Mayaga dyke and Mark cable factory and directed the contractors to speed up works.
