Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Eng. Patricie Uwase together with the Regional Director of IOM and the EU Representative during the opening of the National Oversight Committee Meeting

2 June 2021- Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Infrastructure, Eng. Patricie Uwase officiated the opening of the National Oversight Committee Meeting for the Project to secure Cross-Border social, economic &commercial activities in the Great Lakes Region. The project aims at the construction of Rusizi II One Stop Border Post (OSBP).

Participants to the meeting reviewed the draft bilateral agreement, Integrated Border Management (IBM) training manual outline, the design of Rusizi II One Stop Border Post and update on Social Cohesion and Small Traders activities.

This joint US$20Million Rusizi II One Stop Border Post (OSBP) project is financed by the European Union in partnership with International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA). Once completed, the project will facilitate movement of goods and people between Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo RC and the Great Lakes Region in general.

This is expected to be achieved by the establishment and effective functioning of the OSBP at the border between Rusizi and Bukavu, using an Integrated Border Management approach (IBM), and by building social cohesions through ensuring the OSBP works cooperatively with border communities, users and service providers.
