Kigali, 6 September 2021: A Zimbabwean delegation led by Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Felix Mhona visited Rwanda to enhance co-operation on infrastructure development, leveraging on the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.

In his remarks during the high-level engagement, Minister Mhona said the Second Republic led by the President of Zimbabwe H. E. Emmerson Mnangagwa has made infrastructure development a top priority as outlined in the National Development Strategy.

“In our economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy, we are prioritising infrastructure development as key in achieving economic prosperity,” said the Minister.

“Indeed, it is commonly noted that infrastructure development is a foundation on which to build an economy. “Efficient infrastructure supports economic growth, improves the quality of life, and is necessary for national security.” , he added.

Minister Mhona is accompanied by the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) board chairman, Advocate Martin Dinha, senior Government officials and technocrats from NRZ. Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Rwanda H.E. Professor Charity Manyeruke is also part of the high-level proceedings.

During his visit, Minister Felix Tapiwa Mhona and his delegation visited different projects in Rwanda.

The Minister visited the upgrading works of Sonatubes – Gahanga-Akagera road project completed at 87.2% which will ease traffic and will be connecting the City of Kigali to new airport under construction in Bugesera District.

He also visited the revamped Kigali car-free zone, that will be rebranded to ‘Imbuga City Walk’ to turn the zone into a green and recreational place with more attractive features.

The delegation visited the Campaign Against Genocide Museum located in the Parliamentary that illustrates the military operation conducted by the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) in a successful bid to stop the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

He further visited Kigali Logistics Platform owned by Dubai Port World, United Emirates Arab. The port serves as a gateway to the heart of Africa. The Platform is meant to ease trade both regional and international in Rwanda and its neighboring market. It connects Rwanda to neighbouring countries including Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
