Government Strengthens Efforts to Build Resilient Infrastructure Along Mukamira–Ngororero–Muhanga Road
Nyabihu, 6 September 2026, The Government of Rwanda is strengthening efforts to ensure that critical infrastructure remains resilient to climate-related risks and continues to support the movement of people, goods and services across the country.
As part of an inspection field visit in the Western Province, Minister of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Col. Claudien Bizimungu, held discussions with local leaders and other stakeholders on the state of infrastructure and measures required to strengthen its resilience and reliability.
Among the key infrastructure facilities visited was the Mukamira–Ngororero–Muhanga road, an important transport corridor connecting Nyabihu, Ngororero and Muhanga Districts. The Minister of State inspected ongoing rehabilitation works aimed at strengthening the road and improving its resilience to damage caused by heavy rainfall and other climate-related events.

The corridor is vital to the movement of people and goods between the three districts and surrounding areas. However, heavy rains have in the past caused damage to sections of the road, affecting connectivity and disrupting the movement of communities and economic activities.
During the visit, the Minister of State and the participating leaders discussed measures to address these challenges, with a focus on strengthening infrastructure resilience and ensuring that interventions are designed to withstand future climate-related impacts.
“The Government of Rwanda is committed to building infrastructure that is not only accessible and functional today, but also resilient and sustainable for the future. We must ensure that our roads and other critical infrastructure can withstand climate-related challenges so that citizens can continue their social and economic activities without unnecessary disruption. Resilient infrastructure is fundamental to our economic transformation and to ensuring that development reaches every community.”
Col. Claudien Bizimungu, Minister of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure
The field visit underscores the Government’s continued commitment to putting citizens at the centre of infrastructure planning and development by ensuring that essential infrastructure remains functional, reliable and responsive to the needs of communities.
By investing in resilient infrastructure and addressing vulnerabilities along key transport corridors, Rwanda is strengthening connectivity, supporting economic activity and creating an enabling environment for sustainable development.
