Minister Gatete commends the progress of Infrastructure projects in Musanze, Nyabihu, Ngororero and Gakenke Districts.
24 April, 2021: Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Claver Gatete conducted a one day site visit in Musanze, Nyabihu, Gakenke and Ngororero to assess the status of infrastructure projects including roads and bridges as well as housing projects. During this tour, Minister Gatete was accompanied by other Government officials including Governor of Northern Province, Hon, Dancilla Nyirarugero, Mayors of Musanze and Nyabihu Districts and the Deputy Director General of Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA).
The team also inspected the progress of Nyamutera Bailey Bridge which is the first bridge on the road to Shyira between Musanze and Nyabihu districts. The bridge is fully completed and usable since last year and can support 30 ton weight vehicles.
Minister Gatete and other officials inspected Shyira road connects Musanze district, Nyabihu and Gakenke districts and Ndusu Vunga - Rubagabaga (10.2km) heading to Rubagabaga bridge. Engineering Brigade has been contracted for regular maintenance of the road to improve service delivery to the citizens in the region.
The Officials visited Giciye Bridge being rebuilt after being destroyed by torrential rains last year preventing many residents from accessing economic and health services
Meanwhile, a temporary suspended bridge for motorcycles and pedestrians has been put in place constructed by Rwanda Reserve Forces to facilitate movements of pedestrians, bicycles and motorcycles in May 2020 while waiting for the bridge to be reconstructed in a sustainable manner.

The team also inspected construction works for Rubagabaga Bridge with 99m long and the 150m long Satinsyi bridges located on Ngororero-Nyakinama- Musanze - Cyanika road (62km) to be constructed once funds are mobilised. The two bridges are expected to enhance business development and connectivity in the region.

Minister Gatete together with Governor of Northern Province, Dancilla Nyirarugero also toured Kinigi IDP Model Village under construction by Reserve Force in Musanze District, currently at 78.8% progress. The Village will be home to 144 families, it set to be inaugurated on 4th July 2021The pillars of the Village include residential blocks, Kampanga secondary school, an Early Childhood Development Centre (EDCD), green houses, a poultry farming, a health post, and 16.5km asphalt roads, sports facilities, Nyange Integrated Craft Production Centres (Agakiriro) and a multipurpose hall among others.
The 16.5Km asphalt roads under construction are essential to the tourism-based economy in the region. Through a developed road network across Kinigi area, Musanze District, the destination to this touristic area will become easier to access, better organised and more attractive.
