Minister Gatete visits Nyamagabe and Nyamasheke Districts

Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Claver Gatete together with Mayor of Nyamasheke and the Director General of RTDA during the visit of damaged spot along Nyamasheke – Karongi road.

14 November 2020: Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Claver Gatete held a visit in

Nyamagabe and Nyamasheke districts to assess the status of road infrastructures in this rainy season. Minister Gatete inspected road projects mainly Huye - Nyamagabe – Kitabi and Pindura – Bweyeye under rehabilitation.  He also inspected the completed streetlight project along the 97-kilometer road network of Nyamagabe – Nyamasheke and Pindura- Bweyeye

The streetlights will facilitate tourism and trade activities with the between Bweyeye and rest of the country as they enhanced security in the touristic forest of Nyungwe.

Minister Gatete together with Mayor of Nyamasheke District, the Director General of RTDA, local authorities and security organs also visited the spot on Nyamasheke – Karongi road triggered by landslides following the recent heavy rains in the area.

Rehabilitation works for the damaged spot are underway to clear the road for safe passage.

The officials held a meeting with local leaders and opinion leaders in Huye, Nyamagabe districts.

The discussions held are meant on maintaining the existing infrastructure projects as well as having ownership and accountability.  The residents whose properties were affected by construction works were assured of resolving pending compensation related cases before end of December 2020. Different stakeholders agreed to assess expropriation pending queries and other defects that need to be fixed prior to the handover of the road.
