Minister of infrastructure meets group of Journalists from African Development Bank
22 May, 2019: Today, the Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Claver Gatete received a group of Journalists under the invitation of African Development Bank, who are on a media mission from 22 – 23 May 2019 to document success stories on African Development Fund (ADF) funded Projects in Rwanda. The delegation was led by the Bank Group's Country Manager to Rwanda Martha Phiri. She emphasized on the purpose of the media mission, as to showcase how Rwanda is effectively using ADF resources to accelerate social-economic development and improve quality of life of Rwandan citizens.
Minister Gatete highlighted priority infrastructure projects that were supported by African Development Fund, more especially in energy and water and sanitation sectors.Additionally, the bank also finances projects in transport and housing infrastructure.The bank started supporting Rwanda’s development goals after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The ADF has strongly supported the Government of Rwanda in ensuring sustainable water supply projects and scaling up energy in different districts of the country.It is planned that the mission visits three projects to document results and speak with the beneficiaries:(i) Scaling Up Energy Access (ii) Rural Water supply and Sanitation Sub-Program I l (PNEAR Il) located in Rulindo District and (iii) Regional Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Program in Nyanza District.
It is hoped that, the stories to come out of this visit will contribute to strengthening the case for a successful replenishment of the 15th instalment of the ADF and the 7th General Capital Increase for more resources for beneficiary countries.
