Rwanda signs Bilateral Air Service Agreement
Kigali, 19/07/2022- The Republic of Rwanda signed a Bilateral Air Services Agreement(BASA) with the Federal government of Austria to which will further boost the already existing cooperation and reinforce the competitiveness in the aviation industry between the two countries. The signing shows the mutual trust and commitment to deepen the strategic partnership. Common rules will facilitate cooperation of Rwanda and Austria companies and decrease the administrative burden for authorities, creating better opportunities for investment and strengthening economic prosperity and growth.
This bilateral civil aviation safety agreement (BASA) will support EU manufacturers of aeronautical products to increase their trade and market share in the Rwandan market. It will therefore play an important role in the recovery of the sector from the current crisis.
Both the European Union and Japan will now proceed with their respective internal procedures to conclude the agreement. Pending its entry into force, the agreement will be provisionally applied from signature. Other areas of focus in the BASA include regulation of frequency and capacity of air services between both countries, pricing, among other commercial aspects.
The Minister of Infrastructure Dr. Ernest NSABAIMANA signed on behalf of the Republic of Rwanda whereas Dr. Christian Fellner (Ambassador) signed on behalf of Federal Republic of Austria as a symbol to strengthen ties between the two countries.
